Manic Monday

Yesterday was a company-declared holiday for me (in lieu of Vesak Day on Saturday). So I decided to make good use of it, and run as many errands as I can. I was up and out of the house by 8am, thus missing the SQPN podcast marathon. Thankfully most of it was recorded on uStream, so I’ll be able to catch up on what I missed out. Wink

First stop, value breakfast at McD! Sausage McMuffin with refillable coffee/tea at just $2.50 is always a good deal. Grin

Next, a quick stop at the box office upstairs to grab my ticket to watch Star Trek at 10:30am. That was followed by another quick trip to the bank downstairs to transfer some funds around. While waiting for the movie to start, I was bombarded with loads of advertisements as well as 4 movie trailors, 3 of which piqued my interest enough to want to watch the movies when they actually air. These were:

The final trailor that only served to increase my disgust of Dan Brown and his “literary” works was, yup you guess it, Angels and Demons. Obviously, I shall not bother including poster images and links for this piece of trash, attempting to pass off as a thriller. For a great interview with Carl Olson, where he gives a brief rundown of the craziness that is Angels and Demons, check out the latest episode of The Catholics Next Door podcast.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Star Trek movie. (You can read my review of the movie here.) The only complain I had was that the theater smelled of feet (eww..) Sick

It was 1pm when the movie ended. Oops.. I was supposed to meet my financial planner in her office at 1pm. It was raining cats and dogs.. double oops. I quickly sent her a message informing her that I’ll be 15 minutes late. Luckily, her office is just a couple of bus-stops from the cineplex I was at, so I managed to get to her office in time. We completed our little exercise in less than an hour. By then I was already hungry. So I started roaming around, wondering what to eat. Driven by an unexplainable craving for pasta, I headed to Astons Specialities at the basement Suntec City to try their Spicy Chicken Spaghetti. Yummy. Eat

Finally, to top off all the madness of the day, I spent an entire hour at the Charles and Keith factory outlet located near my workplace, looking for a new pair of shoes to replace my terribly worn-out pair. It was end-of-season sale, and most of the shoes on sale were selling at a 50-70% discount. Quite the deal if you ask me. However, all the designs that I wanted did not come in my size, and those that came in my size was not within my budget. Because I’m still recovering from that nasty ankle sprain from early March, I’d wanted to get flats. Since that was not possible, I eventually settled for this at $16.90. It has a little bit of heels (about an inch high), but it was low enough that my ankles did not complain too much. I’ll just have to be careful and watch my steps. Razz

So you see, that’s what this crazy kitty does on her day off. It was definitely enough madness for one day.

Staying Alive

I noticed it’s been quite a long while since I last updated the blog, so I thought I probably should give a brief update on what’s been going in my life. Just so that you all know that I’m still pretty much alive, and kicking. Razz

As usual, work has kept me busy. Now that my bosses are cooped up in a meeting room, discussing the future of an upcoming product, I get a little bit of breathing space to relax a little.

Many things have happened in the past months. As most of you that are following me on Twitter/Plurk/Facebook already know, I recently broke up with my boyfriend of 4 years. There were many factors that led to the final decision, of which I will not discuss openly here. Let’s just say I’ve finally decided NOT to settle for 2nd best. Marriage is a commitment for life, and I do not want to regret later. After talking to a couple of colleagues who knew him (my ex was an ex-colleague of mine), I’m all the more convinced that I made the right choice in leaving him. Meanwhile, I’m trying to get back into the “swing of things” of being a swinging single again. I’m still open to starting a new relationship again, but there’s no hurry. I’ll just take things as they come my way. Chic

Most of you also know that I sprained my left ankle pretty badly early last month. It had me limping around for a month! weep Luckily for me, there were no fractures, or anything nasty. I’ve more or less regained most of the functionality of my ankle, but not all of the flexibility yet. The doctor has cautioned me about not injuring it again, or things could get complicated. So now I contemplate on every step that I take in life, quite literally.

Well, that’s all for now. Meanwhile, please check out the updated Podcasts and Links pages.

In Preparation For Lent

Guess what folks? Lent is here again! God is good, for sure. I mean, after all that binge eating & drinking during the Christmas/New Year season, as well as all the festive goodies during the Lunar New Year season, AND chocolates from Valentine’s Day, God gives us the *PERFECT* reason to control our desires for food and other worldly stuff, and focus on HIM.

Apart from the usual fasting and abstinence routine that I normally follow during Lent, I wanted to do something different. Something *slightly* more significant. Especially since I’m not *that* fond of meat anyway, so abstinence from meat doesn’t really affect me all that much. I was invited to join a Giving up Facebook for Lent group in Facebook. Although I didn’t join it immediate, it did set me thinking. Am I spending *too* much time on Facebook? Looking back, I realized that the answer was a big fat “YES“! I’ve been logging in religiously, processing requests received, checking on the statuses of my many Facebook friends, playing Lexulous (previously known as Scrabulous) and Bejeweled Blitz. I guess it probably will do me some good to give up Facebooking for the next 40+ days. At the very least, I’ll have more time to catch up on my reading required for the next big project at work. So yes, I’ve joined the group and pledged my determination to rid my attachment to Facebook, and do something productive instead. So if you noticed that I’m kinda quiet over at Facebook, you know it’s all for a good cause. Smile

In addition, I’ll be giving up computer games, particularly PopCap games, for Lent too. I’ve currently got 8 PopCap games installed on my notebook, and I’m beginning to feel that I’m spending too much time on them. Less time on games, means more time to read, means more productivity. Nerd

Naturally, I considered whether I should give up Twitter and Plurk as well, but since they’re my primary connection(s) to my friends from across the world, I’ll probably maintain status quo on those, though I most likely *will* reduce the time I spend there. Thank goodness for Ping.fm, I can easily update all my social network sites at one go with the click of a button. Yes

So there. That was my update on what I’m planning for Lent. What are your plans for Lent? Is there anything you’re giving up? Is there anything you’re doing extra? Let me know by leaving your comments. It’ll be interesting to “compare notesWink

This has got to be *the* CUTEST pig I’ve ever seen, domestic or otherwise! The bf and I had a blast watching this video together, that I found on video I found on Cute Overload, while we were tucked away in the comforts of a Gloria Jeans cafe, each sipping on a cup of Irish Nut Creme Latte.
