One Working Day

This week is gonna be really short for me since Thursday and Friday (7-8th February) are the 1st and 2nd days of the Chinese Lunar New Year, and hence are public holidays for me. I took leave on Monday to help Mom with spring cleaning, and I’m taking another day’s leave tomorrow, which is the eve of Chinese New Year (all because my company’s management is trying to be secretive as to whether they’ll release us early for the day). So in short, today is my one and only working day this week. Woo hoo!

Since this is the only working day for the week, I promptly popped over to the Ikea near my office to do some last minute shopping for Chinese New Year goodies and to check out their daily special, which happens to be Sambal Fish today (just right for my early start in Lent). Luckily I managed to grab the last bottle of Nonya Love Letters before they were completely sold out. I also got myself a bottle of Pineapple Tarts. Phew!

I just received a Red Packet from my manager (surprise surprise), so it looks like this is gonna be a good new year for me. Better be good and get back to work.

Meanwhile, Happy Chinese New Year and Happy Ash Wednesday (does anyone say that?)!

Early Lent

This year Lent starts early on 6th February (Ash Wednesday). But for us here in Singapore, and probably some other parts of the world which are also celebrating the Lunar New Year, 6th of February this year happens to be the eve of the new Lunar year. It is a day of celebration and reunion as family member rush home from all over the world to enjoy a sumptuous reunion dinner and usher in the new year together. Hence the Archbishop of Singapore, Nicholas Chia, has given us a special dispensation to bring forward the day of fasting to 5th February (Tuesday) instead. So I’ll be welcoming the season of Lent slightly earlier than most of friends in the US. So while everyone’s celebrating Mardi Gras, I’ll be fasting, and while they’re fasting on Ash Wednesday, I’ll be feasting on my reunion dinner. Kinda wierd huh?

I just got myself a pocket Bible (Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition) from Amazon.com. Just in time for Lent too. I’m sure it’ll come in handy during this season of prayer and reflection. At the same time, I’ve just enrolled myself in the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary, so I will try to make it a habit to pray a complete Rosary (20 mysteries) every week. (using the audio Scriptural Rosaries from the RosaryCast by Rosary Army of course)

Meanwhile, I hope you noticed the beautiful Pauline Reflections widget that I’ve added to my sidebar. Kudos to Sister Anne Flanagan for creating this wonderful widget!

First of all, I like to thank all the encourage and prayers from you after reading my previous entry about my lost Rosary bracelet. I’m learning to let go and live with lost now. Will definitely be more careful with my stuff next time.

As you’ll probably have noticed by now, I’ve added quite a few affiliate links on the blog. I thought it was a rather cool idea to be able to spread the word some of my favorite websites, while perhaps being able to earn a little extra cash.

Top of the list of my new affiliates are definitely the good folks at JapanesePod101.com, an online portal dedicated to making the learning of the Japanese language easy and fun. You probably remember my review of their podcasts a couple of months back. The same wonderful people have since started KoreanClass101.com and SpanishPod101.com, using the same winning formula to teach the Korean and Spanish language respectively. They’ve also got EnglishPod101.com, which is sort of the reverse of JapanesePod101.com where English is taught using Japanese. If you are a language lover like me, please check out the links on the sidebar of my blog.

If you suddenly feel the urge to find something on Amazon.com while reading the blog, you’ll be pleased to know that you can search Amazon using the widget on my sidebar.

Meanwhile, enjoy this wonderful video by Dr Paul Camarata from the SaintCast. It’ll probably give you more reason to go get yourself an iPhone or an iPod Touch. Nice one, Dr Paul!

Starting Anew

Hmm.. Apparently I’ve done some clean up of this blog, and deleted whatever little pathetic bits of complains I posted previously in this blog. I’ve decided to start out new. “Scratched” out a clean slate, you might say. No more relationship-induced whining (at least I’ll try to keep that to the minimum), and more on me, myself and I.

Narcissistic? Not! I just thought I’ll share more of my simple boring life (other than just my “tumultuous” love life). I will attempt to “brain-wash” you with what I’m doing, reading, watching, feeling, etc.

This is going to be my main blog from now on. I’ll try to direct my current “audience” to here. Movie and restaurant reviews will be duplicated both here and at my Multiply page. Frankly speaking, my Multiply page has been done up so beautifully that I really can’t bear to leave it, but for some strange unknown reason, I can’t get the posts imported to my Facebook page the way they originally appear. Grr..

I aim to keep this post brief, as I’m typing while waiting for a certain software to generate the “physical model” of a certain database diagram. (i.e. I’m working) So I’ll just list a few ways you can find me online:

  • My Multiply page, which currently houses my previous reviews, photos, jokes and other stuff
  • My Facebook profile, which is where I’m at most of the time that I’m online
  • Follow me on Twitter

I have to get back to generating databases and developing programs for now. In my next post, I’ll be sharing my podcast listening experience, where I’ll try to list the 40+ podcasts that I’m subscribed to, and perhaps attempt to give reviews for some of them. Read on!
