Missing Food Photos

If you follow me on Plurk, you probably know by now that I lost some photos I was planning to share with you when I tried to transfer them to my MicroSD card and then swapped the card from one device to another. Of course, silly me forgot to keep a backup of the pictures so this one’s gonna have to be text only. Mad

Well, last night Mom and I went downtown again for grocery shopping and stuff. I received a couple of Gloria Jeans coffee vouchers last month, so we spent a lazy afternoon sipping on our large Irish Nut Crème with an extra shot of espresso.. Yummy!

After quickly gathering our groceries for the week, we stopped by at the food court at the mall. Mom ordered a Nasi Briyani, while I had Hakka Lei Cha (雷茶). For those who don’t know, I’m a Hakka Chinese, so I have a soft spot for Hakka cuisine. *sigh* If I had made a backup of the photos I took last night, I would be able to share them with you. Thankfully, I managed to find this. It’s EXACTLY what I had last night, and from the same stall too! Cool!

Well, that’s my little personal update/rant. Gotta get back to another week of what I call “corporate madness” again. Adios!

The Big 3-0

Yes, I’ve just begun my 30-dom. Now I have to write my age beginning with a “3″. I’m not sure if I’m ready for this yet, but I’ll just have to accept whatever God throws in my way.

Looking back, I realized there are tons and tons of things which I wish I had accomplished by now but have not, either due to my own procrastination, or other “unforeseen circumstances”. However, there are other things that I’m thankful of having at my age:

  • I have a job that I love (although I can’t really say the same about my pay). Even though most of ex-classmates have moved up the corporate ladder, I still honestly prefer development to management. Like I always say, I’m a follower, not a leader.
  • I have a loving boyfriend who bears with all my craziness. Although he has not popped the big question after more than 3 years of dating (Why? I’ll never know), he dotes on me and assures me that “he has plans”. He’s also the only guy I know who understands and tolerates that I NEED to spend more time with 68-year old widowed mother more than with him. For that, I’m extremely grateful.
  • I’ve finally officially completed my degree course before I turned 30 (although the convocation is in end August). I just received the results of my final-year project.. “Higher Distinction” (w00t!)
  • My dear dear “twin” brother, a.k.a my god-brother. We’re not genetically-related in anyway, but we share the same birthday (same year, same month, same day). How cool is THAT! He dotes on me like a baby sister, and I adore him as my elder brother. As an only child, he was a very welcomed sibling to have. We used to try and trick our friends to believing that we were really twins, since we did look alike, and our Chinese names sounded similar. Our different family names gave the trick away, of course. My “twin” brother just broke the news to me this morning that the lady he was courting was no longer his girlfriend, but is now his fiancee! (double w00t)

Those of you following my Twitter/Plurk/Facebook activities probably know that I’ve taken leave from work to celebrate with the bf. We met up for breakfast at a cafe in town, and then we went to watch the latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight. Great action and fantastic performance from a stellar cast, which included the late Heath Ledger as The Joker. My favorite character however is Lucius Fox, played by Morgan Freeman. Freeman is SUCH a charming actor that he ALWAYS steals the show from the leads.

After the movies, we had lunch at Spageddies. We both ordered Crayfish Parmagiarri. That was followed by Tiramisu. Yummy!

We loitered around town for a while more and then headed to a nearby Gloria Jeans for coffee and to rest our feet. That was followed by a visit to an Apple store for the bf to check out the iPod Touch, so that he could use it as a reference of what to expect of the iPhone 3G that he’s eying to get at the end of the year. Finally, we headed home together after getting dinner for my mom.

I realized as I’m typing this entry, it has already past midnight, meaning I’m now in Day 2 of my 30-dom. Well, I guess that also means I should get some beauty sleep now. Meanwhile, checkout my birthday photo album on Facebook!

Until next time, take care and God bless!

Ah.. food.. everyone’s favorite topic!

For those who love, live and breathe food, you now have an option to “hear” food. There are many podcasts available that revolve around the topic of food, cooking and nutrition. The choice is endless. I’ll just want to introduce some of the “foodcasts” which I enjoy.

As the name suggests, the Culinary Podcast Network is a network of podcasts celebrating the culture of good food and drinks, produced by Chef Mark Tafoya and friends. Chef Mark is a personal chef in New York City who is also a globe-trotter and self-taught gourmand. By subscribing to the feed at the Culinary Podcast Network homepage, you will receive the following podcasts as they are updated, you can also subscribe to the shows individually using the links provided:

Listeners to Father Roderick Vonhögen’sDaily Breakfast podcast may be familiar to the Scottish celebrity chef. Gordon Ramsay. Gordon Ramsay’s Fast Food is series a video podcast produced by Times Online, Britains most successful newspaper podcaster. By subscribing to this podcast, you will also receive the recipes discussed in pdf format.

If you’re exploring vegetarianism like I am, the Vegetarian Food for Thought podcast by Colleen Patrick-Goudreau from Compassionate Cooks, may be what you are looking for. This podcast aims to inspire a joyful, sustainable and compassionate diet, by debunking myths about vegetarianism and empowering people to make informed food choices.

Watching a cooking video is also a good way to pick up cooking. Apart from the afore-mentioned Gordon Ramsay’s Fast Food, there are many fine video podcasts out there in the “pod-o-sphere”. One such video podcast is Start Cooking, which helps busy people to learn the basics of cooking that’s easy to follow. There are of course lots more out there. So do a search for “cooking” in your iTunes today!
